Space Coast Camera & Lens Rental is a small company which was formed to allow photographers of all levels to enjoy equipment, especially lenses, that they would not ordinarily purchase, or cannot cost justify owning, but would still want to use to further their personal art or professional works.
Also, I wanted to provide a local resource which is currently lacking in Brevard County, as our last dedicated camera shop closed down several years ago. I am hoping to blend the best of the online experience with a local, in person ownership and resource.
I am Joe Mitchell the owner, and I began photography at age 13, using Minolta, Mamiya-Sekor, and Canon 35mm Film Cameras. Back in the pre digital days, we cut grass for money to buy bulk rolls of plus-x and tri-x film, found the occasional good deal on a new lens, and of course lots of wet darkroom things like D76 developer, stop bath, fixer and of course copious amounts of black and white enlarging paper. We rode around our small town of Indialantic Florida looking for picture opportunities. We braved hurricanes in blistering heat with bare feet to get to school.... lol. We bought our cameras and supplies in a store - in the pre digital days, we had to wait ON a line to buy things, not online because we didn't even imagine that was coming. The closest thing were these crazy New York Camera Stores that bought multi page ads in magazines listing page after page of all this CHOICE camera gear that we could never afford. Ironic that these "Big Box" stores seem to remain, and thrive too, while most of the local camera stores are failing or just closing up one by one.
I am an attorney by trade, which helped me accumulate the equipment you see on this website across 25 years of doing digital and about 21 years before that doing film photography. once FD lenses became useful again, as you can see I became a bit obsessed with them and have a respectable collection that I longed for as a young photographer. Now I am hoping that many of you that read this will become customers and be able to enjoy using things that you otherwise w2ould not have access to.
In many of the sample images, you will see my faithful Jack Russell Terrier Seyla, who is 15 in 2024 when I began this business. She never fails to make it to a shoot and always finds her way to a good pose for me. Occasionally you will see Flynn, a Jack Russell Mix who lets my daughter live with him. He's the wire haired one on the landing page yawning with boredom while I point the camera at him.
The lens and camera collection/inventory is ever growing especially if this business venture finds some success and more and more used lenses find their way in here. Keep in mind that affiliate links help me as well, and help make it worthwhile to keep this business available.
