THE EF 100-400MM f/4.5-5.6L IS in different versions has been a major part of my travel trinity for over 20 years.

I have owned several of these, all of them were nothing short of excellent. The Version II is definitely the best of the best in this lens family.

Like all zoom lenses, it gives the instantaneous perspective shift without movement, and allows a respectable distance from skittish subjects or for framing the subject more tightly.

This series of photos was taken with the EF 100-400mm version 1 - a lens that recorded more images for me across the 17 years I owned it. The image quality is evident even though these were taken with my "dated" EOS 1Ds MKII.

I cropped these close ups to show that even magnified and cropped, this lens delivers.

Look carefully and you can see the reflection of tree branches and leaves in the clock's glass cover.
