SAMPLE IMAGES FOR CANON EF 85mm f/1.4L IS
BOKEH
Like any great Canon portrait length lens (50-135mm), the EF 85mm f/1.4L does not disappoint. In using this lens, I agree that there is a slight difference, at max aperture, between this and the more expensive EF/RF 1.2L's - but only when comparing max aperture Bokeh.
However, once the lenses are stopped down, to f/2.8 in this sample photo, the balance tilts in favor of the f1.4 IS - and remember, it has IS and the 85 1.2's don't. That simply means that this lens gives you an additional 2+ stops of real world stabilization than the Non-IS Lenses.
The background separation and Bokeh on this lens are truly fantastic. If you shoot professionally, your clients will love what this lens does. This lighter lens beats the big 1.2's (and the Sigma 105mm f/1.4) on weight as well.

SHARPNESS
This lens is tack sharp. The lighter weigh does not mean lighter quality glass - just a little less glass!
This photo and the close cropped one that follows show that even when the image size is reduced for posting, the focused area of the image still stays perfectly sharp.

CLOSE CROPPED
In this close cropped image taken from the previous image, the quality of the images the 85mm f/1.4L produces remain excellent. As you can see, my typical sample photo location at the Indialantic Beach Boardwalk gives different backgrounds and light to show the capabilities of several lenses in our inventory. This image, even being reduced in file size twice, still holds its sharpness, color rendition and quality.
