CANON nFD 300mm f/4 Sample Image Gallery
VINTAGE IMAGE
300MM is a great focal length for almost any subject. The nFD 300mm lenses give a unique image quality, and allow it to be done from a greater distance than shorter lenses from our vintage or modern collection.
This flower was about 6 -8 feet into a flower bed where I could not get closer. Note the great resolution this lens produces on the R5
SKITTISH WILDLIFE
Some wildlife just won't let you get close enough for a well set up macro photo. So a telephoto can be used as a "tele-macro" in this instances.
"tele-macro" is not usually a true macro - but in many cases this is the only way to produce a close up type image of something like this White Peacock had to be "stalked" for a few minutes before this image was taken, at a distance of about 15 feet. Image cropped by 40%.
Note the excellent resolution of this 40+ year old lens.
PORTRAIT
This photo of Seyla out for a walk demonstrates that even a 300mm lens can be used for portrait work if the circumstances and light are favorable.
MORE "TELE-MACRO"
This group of Small Pods was shot at minimum focus distance, note the detail and the gray background being blown out - a paved street - yet still providing very good contrast.
SWEAT BEE
Florida has a great many pollinating insects - including this sweat bee which is covered in pollen - the same pollen that makes some of us sneeze in spring. The 300mm nFD gets the job done well.
BACKGROUND/BOKEH
These three photos are cropped portions of several photos I took on the outing to test the nFD 300mm f/4. They are included so that you can see the background/bokeh when it is deliberately thrown out of focus.
MORE BACKGROUND/BOKEH
In many instances, we aren't looking for the traditionally rounded bokeh that renders from the higher speed lenses. With this lens, and at full/almost full apertures, the background renders as a very soft look reminiscent of several classic painters. To me it appears pleasingly softer than modern 300mm fixed and zoom lenses.
